Situated at the quiet end of the town's main street and just off the river, the Stonington Inn is pretty, elegant and comfortable. We stayed in room one, a somewhat small but beautifully decorated queen bedroom with a private little terrace facing the water. The room's marble bathroom is actually huge and offers an inviting looking whirlpool tub as well as a large stall shower, toiletries and comfortable robes.
This is not a B&B but, nevertheless, a complimentary buffet breakfast is offered each morning with coffee, tea, juice, cereal, yogurt, hard-boiled eggs, bread and pastry. When the weather is nice, breakfast can be enjoyed on the inn's large and beautiful deck facing the water. In the evening, the inn offers a complimentary wine and cheese hour that can also be enjoyed on the deck, at the bar or in the comfortable main living room by the fireplace.
We arrived at the inn on a very hot August day and were annoyed to find our room stiflingly hot. However, in response to our complaints, the owner quickly arrived to check it out and the situation was rectified. By the time we returned to our room after dinner, it was cool and comfortable.
Although the inn is by the river and rooms are billed as "seaside," there is actually a large parking lot and the Skipper's Dock restaurant between the water and the inn. It's still lovely but the view and water breezes are somewhat obstructed.
Overall we found our stay comfortable and Stonington to be a nice little town to visit, especially in summer. It's close proximity to Mystic allows you to enjoy the best of both for a summer holiday.
Great post. Nice photos. Thanks for sharing.
