When we're in the mood for a great (and we do mean great) burger and all the fixings, the Barking Dog is where we go. Easily the best burger, served on toasted rosemary Focaccia bread and accompanied by a heavenly slaw. Choosing between the spicy curly fries and the beer-battered onion rings is too painful so we get an order of each and share.
On those rare occasions when we can bear to order something else, shepherd's pie is delicious and hearty. Regardless of the entree choice, a cobb salad is a requirement as it's hands-down the best in the city. So good, in fact, that we sometimes order it just to take it home. Portions for everything, including salads, are huge so plan on a doggy bag - no pun intended :)
Prices are not dirt cheap here but become more reasonable when you see that each order can feed two. In addition, not much can be said for the atmosphere although it does have a neighborhood feel. Seating by the windows is pleasant but not terribly comfortable on what are, essentially, glorified folding chairs. The inside of the restaurant offers a few comfy booths but it's dark and a bit dreary. But, this is not romantic dining. This is a (hopefully) rare treat of grease, saturated fat and cholesterol good enough to make you lick your fingers!
