Whatever the calendar says about the official start of summer, we all know it really begins on Memorial Day weekend! For the two of us, that is also the start of summer weekend getaways to the south shore of Long Island, to strolls on the beach, grilling, outdoor dining, the dog running free on the grass and lazy afternoons sitting in the garden drinking frozen cocktails. And so, as we hit the road early this Friday, settle in at the house and dust off the blender, here are our summer favorites as inspiration for your own blenders. Cheers and have a safe and happy holiday weekend!
This is, hands down, our summer go-to drink. It was our first delectable frozen creation and the basis for all the rest. In hot weather, we're drawn to the sweet smell of peaches at farm stands and farmers markets. And the fresh, ripe fruit gives these cocktails the taste of summer in a glass!
It was on a summer vacation that we first tasted a Key Lime Martini and fell head over heels for it. But as much as we love and enjoy the original, that tangy, refreshing lime flavor was adapted to a blender drink in record speed!
Although we generally prefer our rum daiquiris, Cinco De Mayo introduced us to the excellent combination of watermelon and tequila. With a generous amount of sea salt cutting through the sweetness of the melon, this cocktail was quite a show stopper!
And for a light-hearted glimpse into summer get-away weekends in the big city, check out my post, Dances with Luggage Carts.
I'll take one of each, please! :-)
