Life in the Big City - Road Tripping

Life in the Big City - Road Tripping

The Hungry Couple and their furry sous chef are hitting the road!  This will be the third summer that we've vacationed on the coast of Maine and our second time staying in the same gorgeous lakeside cottage.  I look forward to it all year and it is definitely one of the biggest highlights on our calendar.  I love road trips no matter what and I always pack us a fun picnic lunch.  This year I have an idea for an interesting sandwich and I'll share it with you when we get back.

Life in the Big City - Road Tripping
We're quite a traveling show on the road.  Hadley, asleep in the back seat (safely tethered to a doggie seat belt), music blasting loud enough to shake the car and Brian and I enjoying the scenery and feeling free and relaxed.  Oh, and the car packed to the rafters.  Granted, most of the bags are mine.  Brian tends to pack as if he's only staying for lunch whereas I am prepared for several climate changes and possible famine.  And yes, our cottage is just down the road from a stylish town with many restaurants, cute retail stores and approximately 237 gift shops catering to all your nautical and lobster themed needs.

But while we're eating our way through Maine and chasing lighthouses, I have some wonderful guest posters lined up.  First up will be Kim B. from Cravings of a Lunatic.  When I first started reading her blog, I was amused by her "loonie" references and interested to hear about her life in Canada.  We became friends and now know each other well enough that I can tell you that she's not kidding.  Kim is certifiable.  One of these days we're going to hold an intervention and possibly have her restrained and forceably medicated.  I guess what stops us is that she's funny as hell and a really good cook.

Next you'll meet Stacy from Food Lust, People Love.  I have no idea what she's going to make for you but, based on my experience, I am certain it will be something I want to eat and it will come with stunning photographs.  Stacy is from Texas but now lives with her oilman husband in Dubai.  Check out her blog for a list of all the places in the world she's called home at some point!  I'm always fascinated by her stories and how she weaves a bit of those other cultures into her otherwise American cooking.

Finally, closing out the week will be Kim W. from Ninja Baking.  Kim is an American who spent the first 17 years of her life living in Japan with her businessman father and tennis star mother.  These days she's in California but weaves her rich Eastern experiences into her life and food.

So things are going to get a little exotic while I'm gone since I'm basically leaving my blog in the hands of a Californian from Japan, a Texan in Dubai and a Canadian lunatic.  I don't even want to know what goes on here next week!  OK, Kim, Kim and Stacy, I'm leaving you the keys.  Take good care of my readers, remember to lock up on your way out and try not to steal anything.  I'll see you all next week!

  1. You are such a trusting soul, Anita. I don't know what the others are making but since it looks like a wild party, I've got a cocktail for your readers. You just toddle off on your holiday. We'll collect the empties and tidy up before we leave. And we'll try not to burn the place down.
