Life in the Big City - Autumn in New York
"Don't you love New York in the fall? It makes me wanna buy school supplies. I would send you a bouquet of newly sharpened pencils if I knew your name and address..."
Do you all remember that line from the movie "You've Got Mail?" I'm always reminded of it during this time of the year. The start of school, the start of football season. OK, so we don't have kids and aren't that much into sports. But it's just that those events all come together right after Labor Day weekend, our unofficial end of summer. In the movie, Joe Fox's character also tells Katherine Kelly that it would be a shame to miss New York in the fall and I couldn't agree more. The weather turns crisp and soon the pumpkins and the potted mums will appear in the market. The city also gets a lot more crowded but it just feels normal and back to its usual rhythm.
A few weeks ago, I teasingly chastised some of my fellow food writers for starting their autumn themed recipes while I was still packing for our summer vacation. I wait for summer all year long and am not ready to let go of it one minute early. But now that its gone, I can admit how very, very much I love fall. There will be apple picking and pumpkin picking and leaf peeping and oh, so many autumn recipes. I can hardly wait! So long till next time.
I'm a pumpkin junkie! Have I also mentioned that I'm smitten with every movie that Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan are co-stars in. Well, maybe not EVERY one...Joe vs. the Volcano... ugh
ReplyDeleteYou know, I only like Pumpkin in pie and I keep making different recipes hoping and praying that at some point I will find that special recipe making fall pumpkins melt in my mouth. *sigh* maybe this year.....:)
