Excuse me but, whoever turned winter on, can you please dial it back a little? Single digit temperatures are a bit extreme when I'm trying to walk the dog. Or walk anywhere. Or breathe. At least there's plenty of cooking and recipe testing going on these days because it's nice and warm in my kitchen.
The last time I was brave enough to head outside and do some grocery shopping, I stocked up on plenty of winter citrus including some gorgeous blood oranges. I've made a few recipes with them so far but I certainly couldn't let their season pass without at least one cocktail.
The classic mint julep is a simple drink that highlights a few great ingredients so I thought it would make a good forum for the blood oranges. They add a good citrus note that balances the mint and stands up to the bourbon. It's a cool refreshing drink so I think I should sip it in my warm kitchen. Cheers!
