Marzipan has always held a special place in my heart. When I was a little girl, my German born father would take me to a part of the city that had many German stores, including an incredible shop called The Elk Candy Company. Their specialty was little marzipan figurines or bonbons made with cake, chocolate and marzipan and I always chose the cutest one. And sometimes, even when we didn't go there, my father would come home from work and there would be a little marzipan candy in his pocket for me as a surprise.
Sadly, the candy shop is gone and most of the German stores have been replaced by electronics retailers or coffee chains. But I have my sweet memories. A few weeks ago, however, I was browsing through the collection of syrups from Amoretti and they had marzipan. I had to try it! I was almost afraid to be disappointed that the flavor might not be correct but it's dead on. Marzipan candy in liquid form.
Naturally it's very sweet and needs to be mixed in with something. Since Valentine's Day is coming up, I've been thinking about ice cream shakes made for two, like the frozen hot chocolate at Serendipity. So why not a marzipan ice cream shake for two? I added some bourbon to cut the sweetness and up the fun and two straws to make it romantic. Although, to be honest, I'd really have to care about you to share this because I kind of want it all to myself. Enjoy! This recipe was sponsored by Amoretti. I have marzipan memories too - back from when I lived in the Czech Republic as a kid, so I can totally relate. I can't eat much of it these days because of my ridiculously sensitive teeth (good for my waistline though!). This milkshake looks decadent and just amazing!
ReplyDeleteI can definitely see sharing this milkshake with someone special (or hoarding it all for myself). I love when certain flavors have the ability to transport us back in time. What a sweet memory to go along with this treat!
ReplyDeleteI love marzipan, so it's great to hear that the syrup has the right flavor. And yeah...I wouldn't share that shake with anyone. If they really love me, they'll understand. ;)
ReplyDeleteI have no idea if I've had marzipan before. If I did, it was because somebody else made something for me. Sounds like I need to give this milkshake a try!
ReplyDeleteI love the flavor of marizpan but I agree, it is too sweet. So just a touch works in my book and I'll never say no to anything that involves bourbon, ice cream or a milkshake. You might have to wrestle me to share though.
