The Cosmo cocktail came into fashion when Sex and the City was airing but it's never left. For that matter, Sex and the City never really left because I'm sure I can find reruns of it daily. But that combination of vodka, cranberry, orange liqueur and lime definitely has staying power.
Power might be a good word to use here, actually, because I think the drink is very strong, albeit delicious. At home I find myself adding a bit of simple syrup and maybe a soda topper. Blasphemy? Nah. I've heard the same from lots of folks who avoid ordering it at a bar for those reasons.
But we're not in a bar and, at home, we can make it how we like it. A soda topper is fine but prosecco is better. And yes, I realize I'm adding more alcohol to a drink I already think is strong. Ha! But the bubbles do lighten it up and also make it a slower sipper. I still add a teaspoon or so of simple syrup for myself but, with Easter coming up, I'm finding cotton candy in the stores and I couldn't resist. You can add a touch of the candy to the drink (it will dissolve immediately) or just snack on it to get a sugar hit. It's a decadent and delicious combination. Cheers!
