I know I'm not alone in my obsession with Cadbury Crème Eggs, right? While I can resist most Easter candy, these eggs have had a hold on me forever. I watch the store shelves as spring arrives, waiting for the first batch to show up. And we won't discuss how many I've bought and eaten.
I may or may not have hoarded some extra eggs but let's just say that I had enough of them to play around with a few in some cocktail making. I've seen several recipes online that try to mimic the taste of the eggs but I just went ahead and used the actual egg.
The chocolate shavings on the rim of the glass came from the shell and I mixed the creamy center into the drink. A true crème egg cocktail. You can use vodka, as most people do, but I prefer the warmth of bourbon. Clearly I needed to serve the actual crème egg as a garnish so this is more of a boozy dessert than a cocktail. But it is definitely a new springtime tradition. Cheers!

- Grate each egg on a box grater to create the chocolate shavings for the rims. Add the centers to a cocktail shaker.
- Add the grated chocolate to a shallow dish. Brush the edges of two cocktail glasses with a bit of corn syrup and roll in the grated chocolate. Place in the fridge for a few minutes to set up.
- Add the bourbon, cream de cacao and milk to the egg centers in the cocktail shaker. Fill with ice, shake well and pour into the prepared glasses. Garnish with a split crème egg, if desired.
